The EDGE Movement NYC program is a grassroots non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to actively promote the development of young boys of color into leaders of their professions and their communities. EDGE stands for Empower, Develop, Grow, and Educate. Twice a month on Saturdays, a group of accomplished volunteer mentors work with approximately 30 amazing young middle school aged boys, known as EDGE Scholars, on building character and leadership using a custom curriculum over the course of an academic school year. This curriculum consists of three phases: Creating Your Own Narrative, Power of Choice, and Leadership. Each phase has 3-4 lessons designed to drive discussion and enable scholars to become active participants in their own development process. In addition, we have Electives, Guest Speakers, and Community Based Service Projects to expose our scholars to new ideas and new areas of potential interest and to ensure that they receive a well-rounded experience.
In addition to our Scholars Program, we also have programs for our Alumni, who leave the Scholars program upon graduation of the 8th grade, and the Parents of current scholars. These programs are intended to provide additional guidance and support to our scholars and their families.
